We miss you Windows Live OneCare :(

Microsoft’s Windows Live OneCare (WLOC) Security suit was one of the best Security Suit I ever used. Of course, OneCare 1.0 was really a buggy one. Later one version 1.5 is quite ok.

The versions 2.x were really rocking one. Microsoft lately realized what consumer wants.  And they did it in version 2.x but that was already late.  Competitors in the market captured that slot.  Microsoft has no option and decided to dump it.  Instead they are now offering free anti-malware suite called Microsoft Security Essentials (MSE).

Compare to MSE or any other Security Suites, I still like the WLOC.

WLOC is light on system.

Faster Scanning.

Better Detection rates.

Silent updates.

Easy to use.

Hassle free installation.

Very reasonably priced.

Windows Live OneCare is a fantastic product from Microsoft.

We really missed you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Windows Live OneCare was discontinued on 30.Jun.2009.

.WMV error

Thursday, June 19th, 2008

Today I have faced a problem using Windows Media Player.  I have downloaded a .wmv file from Mirosoft Website.  That is a Webcast related to SSIS [ SQL Server Integration Services ].  After completion of download, I open it.  Windows Media Player is issuing a error that it not able to play the file.  I installed various media players and codecs other than Windows Media Player.  No one is able to play the file.  At last, I visited to Webcast site to view the video online, on web too it refused to play.  At that time it pop up an error that ”acelp audio codec is missing”  then in Googled it.  I got the link. I installed the codec.  Voila!!!!! The .wmv is playing in Windows Media Player without any hassle.  The whole process took me more than 3 hours.  At last, I’m Happy.
